From Brief to Brownie in 72 Hours: Inside a Bespoke Corporate Commission

When a major global retailer got in touch about a Cinco de Mayo event, they had one question before anything else: could we design something completely new for them?

Not pick from a menu. Not customise the packaging. Design an entirely original brownie — from scratch — around their brief.

They gave us six days. One of those was a bank holiday. Two were the weekend.

We said yes.


The Brief

The brand wanted something that felt authentic to the occasion — not a novelty, not a gimmick. A brownie that actually made sense for Cinco de Mayo. Something bold, slightly unexpected, and distinctly grown-up. Branded, of course, but the flavour had to do the talking.

That brief is exactly the kind of challenge we live for.

The Flavour Development

We started with the flavour profile. Cinco de Mayo called for something with genuine Mexican character — warmth, depth, a little edge. We landed on ancho chilli as the backbone: it's a dried poblano with a rich, almost chocolatey heat that builds slowly rather than hitting you upfront. It sits beautifully alongside dark chocolate.

Lime came next. A hit of citrus to cut through the richness and lift the whole thing — brightening every bite without making it sharp.

Then the detail that tied it together: smoked sea salt. Not just to season, but to reduce the perceived sweetness and add another layer of complexity. In a brownie, salt does extraordinary things — it amplifies the chocolate, it rounds the heat, and it makes people reach for a second piece before they've consciously decided to.

The result was a brownie with a proper story. Something a recipient could actually talk about.

The Branding

Alongside the new flavour, we designed and produced branded brownies carrying the client's event logo — each one a piece of edible branded collateral that doubled as a genuinely delicious product.

Because that's the thing about corporate gifting done properly: the product has to justify itself even without the brand on it. If someone would eat it and enjoy it regardless of whose logo it carries, that's when gifting becomes memorable.

Delivery

With the bank holiday and weekend eating into our window, we hand-delivered the finished order. On time, in perfect condition, no operational issues.

Three actual working days from brief to delivery.
